ELECTRIC TAILGATE LIFT KIT INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR KIA SORENTO 2021+

Electric tailgates are a feature found on some modern vehicles, particularly SUVs and trucks. They use an electric motor to automatically open and close the rear hatch or trunk door of the vehicle. This provides added convenience compared to manually lifting and closing a heavy tailgate.
The electric tailgate can typically be operated using a button or switch inside the vehicle, a button or sensor on the tailgate itself, or a button on the vehicle's key fob. This allows the driver or passengers to open and close the tailgate without having to physically touch or exert force on the tailgate.
Some key benefits of electric tailgates include:
- Easier access when your hands are full, such as when loading or unloading cargo
- Programmable opening heights to avoid hitting low overhangs
- Automatic close function to ensure the tailgate is fully shut
- Hands-free operation using a sensor or foot motion under the rear bumper

How to Use a Power Liftgate
Using a power liftgate is straightforward and convenient. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to operate it effectively:
1. Using the Key Fob
Open the Liftgate:
Press the designated button on your key fob that features the liftgate icon. This will automatically unlock and open the liftgate.
Close the Liftgate:
Press the same button again to close the liftgate, or use the button located inside the vehicle if available.
2. Using the Interior Controls
Open the Liftgate:
Locate the liftgate button on the dashboard or center console and press it to open the trunk.
Close the Liftgate:
Press the same button again to close the liftgate.
3. Using the Liftgate Itself
Open the Liftgate:
If your liftgate has a button on the liftgate itself, press it to open. This is usually located near the center or on the left side.
Close the Liftgate:
To close, press the button on the liftgate again or push the liftgate down manually if needed.
4. Hands-Free Operation
Open the Liftgate:
With your hands full, approach the rear of the vehicle and kick your foot under the rear bumper (if equipped with a hands-free feature). The liftgate should automatically open.
Close the Liftgate:
To close, either press the button on the liftgate or use the key fob as mentioned earlier.
5. Adjusting Opening Height (if applicable)
Set the Height:
Open the liftgate to the desired height, then press and hold the height adjustment button (usually found on the liftgate or inside the vehicle) until you hear a beep. This sets the new height.
Resetting the Height:
To reset, repeat the process and set a new height as desired.
Safety Tips
Check for Obstructions: Always ensure the area around the liftgate is clear before operating to avoid accidents.
Obstruction Sensors: If the liftgate encounters resistance while closing, it should automatically stop and reverse. If this doesn’t happen, check the sensors for any blockages.
Manual Override: In case of a malfunction, most power liftgates can be operated manually. Consult your vehicle’s owner manual for instructions.
